The "Metropolitan Sunset" is a photograph I created during my only visit at the Top of the Rock, five months after moving to New York. My first impressions after getting to the terrace were striking. Two years prior to that I had gone to the Empire State Building, but the views from there weren't nearly as stunning. The Top of the Rock allows you to see almost the full skyline of New York, a crucial element of which is indeed the ESB. It was March afternoon, hence, the light coming from the setting sun was hitting the western walls of the buildings at 90 degrees, creating a strong contrast between lights and shadows. Even after ten years I still remember the sounds of the city, the sirens of police cars, the horns and the traffic in general. The sense of this energy differs substantially 65 floors above the ground from the one you get in the streets, as all the noises from around Manhattan spiral up in the air collectively. A photograph isn't capable of reproducing such a live complex experience, but it allows capturing the unrepeatable moment and admire the breathtaking skyline view at your place every day.
Location: Top of the Rock, New York
