The Story

I spent the entire hot and sunny day on the El Matador State Beach in Malibu during my first vacation in California back in August 2016. As the sun was close to setting, the time came to unpack the eqiupment, set up the tripod and begin experimenting with long exposure right in front of the beautiful rocks. I opened the tripod legs wide so that the lens could remain very low. During this photoshoot I probably destroyed my Fotopro tripod in the sand which had served me for three years until then by the way. It took me a long while before I set the crop exactly the way that satisfied me. The focal length needed to be 17mm at full frame for an extremely wide angle, creating the natural impression of being as close to the subject as possible. I also wanted to include in the background the large rocky tunnel, through which the golden light from the setting sun was coming. Having taken care of all these "ingredients", my main focus became the moving water, or precisely speaking - the waves, and the visual effect they were leaving in the photograph when captured using long exposure. I took tens of shots, slightly adjusting my position and angles before the sun set completely and there was no more light to use. Ultimately I chose this one for the Gallery, as the gentle effect of the wave surrounding the rocks turned most appealing to me.
