The Story

In photography, timing is often the key. Well, it’s also one of the measures of originality in copyright law. That day, the sky in LA was moody, dull and grey. I had locations planned for every day of the trip and I almost lost hope of getting any decent shots of El Matador State Beach during sunset, which was one of my top goals. Upon arrival in Malibu everything still remained pretty much the same. I was setting up the equipment without delusions that there would be any change. Suddenly, a three-minute window opened, when the sun appeared on the horizon between dense clouds and the ocean. For a short while the scenery gained beautiful, vibrant colors, warm tones and perfect contrast. And then, after completion of the work I subsequently titled: "In the Gap", blue hour arrived. I stayed in the same spot, extended exposure and waited patiently for the result which was about to be delivered on the camera screen. Photography that I create is a form of a transcendence of reality. The camera sees differently and shooting long exposure is a perfect illustration of this statement. And the result was breathtaking, even more than the reality...
