About the Photograph

Constructed between 1903-1913 Grand Central Terminal is the third busiest train station in North America. The architectural style and interior design made it a worldwide recognized landmark. I had been planning to photograph this incredible building for a while. It has been somehow special to me, as it attracted my attention when I arrived in New York for the first time in 2013. While heading to the Port Authority on the bus at night and crossing Park Avenue on 39th Street, I noticed the beautifully illuminated building, which at the time looked like an enormous gate to me. It was one of the impressions of New York I will never forget. This time, as usual, I decided to photograph at twilight, my favorite time of the day.

Personally, what I love about the photograph is the contrast between illuminated Grand Central Station and the dark blue sky, but also all the details around, including light trails of vehicles passing by, illustrating business of the area. Using ultra-wide lens allowed me to include in the capture some of surrounding skyscrapers: the legendary Chrysler Building and the Metlife Building.

Location: New York, New York
